I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. (2 Timothy 4:1-5)
We are living in those perilous times spoken of by Apostle Paul in his second epistle to Timothy:
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. (2 Timothy 3:1-5)
For this reason we must tackle these very things when preaching the Gospel to the people. In the UK, with the recent passing of the Same Sex Marriage Bill and the general malaise in which we find the churches, it behoves us to speak out and pronounce God’s Word on the matter. The city of Manchester has a thriving LGBT community which is highly politicized. For this reason we must not be ashamed of the Gospel nor the judgement of God upon such matters. Christians, as a whole, are afraid to speak out because they feel that to do so is “unloving” and may “offend people”. As a result of this they believe that we are putting people off from coming to Christ!
Today, whilst Miguel preached, a young man became angry with Amélia. He stated that we must love and that the Gospel is all about love and that Miguel was simply spreading hatred! Strange as it seems more people approached John and Amélia to receive the leaflets than usual. Even Muslims came to take the leaflets! One young Muslim woman came to John because Miguel was addressing the issue of homosexual practices. John explained that we were not speaking about homosexual people but the issue of Same Sex Marriage. The command given to the first people was to procreate. Human society is built around the family and marriage is the foundation of of the family. A man cannot become pregnant by another man, and a woman cannot become pregnant by another woman. For this reason God has ordained the very principle of marriage as being between a man and a woman! The young woman received a leaflet from John.
At one point a man who was undeniably drunk began to approach Miguel shouting something about the Rosary Prayers. John and Amélia moved close to him and engaged in conversation with him. John spoke very gently with him. His face became contorted as he tried to speak but could not find the words. He was becoming more and more frustrated and less able to vent his anger. So after a few minutes he staggered off. The scripture states:
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. (Proverbs 15:1)
We were able to see how the Holy Spirit had disarmed this man rendering him unable to attack Miguel!
Some African ladies were handing out tracts and one of them introduced herself to Amélia. She spoke warmly about Miguel’s preaching. Later on the same lady approached John to ask which church we went to. John explained that church is not somewhere we go, it is what we are supposed to be! John mentioned how his eldest son is a missionary in South Africa where he, and his wife, live in a rural area of Kwazulu Natal. They live as everyone else does without electricity and plumbing. John then broached the subject of how some so-called apostles and prophets see the Gospel as a means to become rich. These people have no scruples and will take the last penny from a poor widow in order to line their pockets!
John could see from the expression on her face that she was under great conviction and feeling very uncomfortable. We meet very few African Christians that have not been seduced by the leaven of Word of Faith/Prosperity teaching, and this lady was no exception.
Today, for some reason, there was quite a large group of Muslims engaged in proselytism, by offering booklets to people and engaging in conversation with them. Miguel spoke up to declare the message that only through Jesus, the Son of the Most High God, can we obtain redemption and the forgiveness of sins. The Bible teaches that there is only one name under heaven given amongst men whereby we must be saved, the name of Jesus Christ. Not the name of Mohamed, not the name of Buddha nor the name of Mary either! He continued by explaining how that any god that requires people to earn his favour by doing enough good works is no god at all! We need to be redeemed through the shedding of blood as preached by Moses, however the blood of animals cannot redeem anybody. The blood that Jesus shed on the cross is the only thing we can place our hope in as being a sufficient enough payment for sin!
The Muslims could all hear but none of them dared attack what was being preached, even though a couple of them were giving nasty looks at Miguel! They were left in no doubt as to who Jesus was and what He came to do.
