Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. (James 1:19-21)
It has been said that if we are preaching as we ought it will make people Sad, Mad or Glad! There can be little doubt that preaching Christ Jesus will stir up emotions in people like no other name. The name of Jesus is the ONLY name under heaven given amongst men by which we can be saved yet rather than call upon His name men will mock and blaspheme.
A lady stopped to rebuke Miguel for preaching stating that he was making too much noise and that it was upsetting her. Other people approached the Muslims to comment about our denunciation of Islam. People view this as being disrespectful to Muslims and often defend the Muslims. We find that no one will defend us against Muslim insulting the God of the Bible and denying His Son!
One man responded to Amélia, as she offered him a leaflet, telling her that he did not believe the Bible. This same man then proceeded to quote the Bible to her by telling her that the Bible says, “do not judge”! He had his own god and his own personal beliefs and didn’t want her telling him what to believe!
Today, as Miguel was preaching, a man stopped with the intent to challenge him. John approached the man who began to regale John with words of anger. He denounced Christ and the Bible. He poured scorn on the name of Jesus using some very vile language. He was angry with God because, as he stated, he had watched his mother suffer and God did not do anything for her! John explained that his mother was suffering but that he did not blame God. The man was not willing to listen and went away cursing and blaspheming the name of the Lord.
During the period when the wrath of God is poured out upon the Earth we read:
And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds. (Revelation 16:10-11)
Rather than bow the knee before God and call upon the name of the Lord that they might be saved men curse God and blaspheme His holy name!
Another man stopped to speak with Miguel. John and Amélia entered into the conversation. He claimed that he simply could not accept that God was real and that he only believed what he could see with his own eyes! John pointed out that he could not see radio waves so, therefore (using his own logic) radio waves could not possibly exist! He even spoke of not being able to see oxygen as well. He pointed to science as being reliable. John gave him the example of Professor Anthony Flew. Professor Flew was a bigger sceptic that Richard Dawkins and wrote numerous books which were aimed at debunking the whole notion of God. Towards the end of his life Professor Flew stated that, as the direct result of modern scientific discoveries (particularly in the field of genetics and DNA) he came to the conclusion that there HAD to have been a God that created all things. Professor Flew died not professing any particular religion but he had the firm belief that the world and every living thing had been created by God!
This made the man think. John then spoke to him about Frank Morrison, an English journalist who attempted to prove that the resurrection of Jesus Christ was merely a myth. He used the techniques of investigative journalism delving into the accounts of the Gospel narratives and the Book of Acts. Finally he came to the conclusion that the only explanation for the Christian faith was that the Apostles had indeed been speaking the truth. His book, “Who Moved the Stone?” relates his investigations into this and his subsequent change of heart from being an outright sceptic to an outright believer in Jesus Christ.
Because of the inclement weather the team worked under the cover of the Arndale Centre’s Food Court. As usual a group of Muslims had set up their tables in their attempt to proselytise people into accepting Islam. As usual Miguel preached about how Religion cannot save us and that only by the name of Jesus can we be saved. This excludes Muhammad, Buddha, the Pope, Mary, the Saints and any other name we may put our faith in. There were numerous complaints about our preaching, even so there were those who did engaged in conversation with us.
Nearby was a young man who was busking. Eventually he came up to Miguel to ask what it was he was preaching about. Miguel shared with him about Christ and the difference between faith in Jesus and Islam. He was very interested in what Miguel was saying. He had some tokens for free hot drinks at a nearby store so he shared them with us. John brought him a coffee with one of the tokens. The weather was cold and very wet.
Amélia offered a leaflet to a young man and they entered into conversation together. He was from Romania and had only recently arrived in the UK in order to seek work. He had paid a “company” in Romania a considerable amount of money to bring him here with the promise of work. Upon arriving he discovered that there was no job waiting for him. He was shocked at how British Society had become degenerate, the lack of respect amongst young people, the lascivious behaviour of people and the complete disregard for decency. We explained to him that much of this was due to Britain’s being in the EU as they Government were complying with rules imposed upon Britain by the European Parliament in Brussels. Now that Romania was a full member of the EU Romania would also be led down the same path.
He spoke of his faith in God and how that he reads the Bible. He spoke of how he did not support organised religion. He seemed visibly upset at the wickedness that was so prevalent in the world.
John advised him to be careful so as not to leave himself in a position where he had no money. John advised him to return to Romania if he still could not find work before his money ran out as he did not want to be found jobless, homeless and cashless here. At least in Romania he had family whereas here he had nobody! He thanked John for the advice. John passed our contact details to him and he said that he would maintain in contact via email.
