Amélia holding out the word of life.

The weather was particularly bad today with strong winds and rain.  On days such as this the team has no option but to go to the only place suitable for preaching, under the Food Court on Market Street.  Unfortunately this is were many others come as well; buskers to entertain the passers-by, Marxists to preach socialism and the overthrow of the government, Muslims to proselytise as well as vendors and people advertising the various stores and restaurants in the city centre.

When the team arrived another group of Christians had set up and were handing out leaflets.  John explained to one of them that we were there to preach the Gospel and so John began to preach from Hebrews chapter one how that for thousands of years God had spoken to mankind through numerous prophets and that we had the message of these prophets written down.  But now God spoke directly to mankind through His own Son.  He spoke of the need we have to be reconciled with God and that this was achieved by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  He also spoke of how religion was a vain thing and how no amount of religion could save us.

Meanwhile Amélia was approached by an Iranian man who told her that Jesus had appeared to him in a dream and, as a result of this, was now a believer in Jesus.  We have heard of similar stories of men and women in Muslim countries were the preaching of the Gospel is forbidden.  We see this as testimony to the Grace of God because where the preaching of the Gospel is virtually impossible for believers God appears to be stepping in personally.

Amélia was also approached by another man from Iran who had been involved with the Jehovah Witnesses.  He was no longer involved because he could see that the Bible contradicted what the JW’s teach.  Now he had not been involved with any church because he saw that churches allow anyone to worship with them which is also contrary to what the Bible teaches.  Miguel and Amélia spoke with him to encourage him in his walk with the Lord and gave him details of the website and our email address so that he could keep in touch.

Jesus stated that His sheep hear His voice and will not follow the voice of strangers.  They may for a time but eventually they realize that what is being taught is not from Christ!

Yet again a large group of people gathered distributing invitations to attend a “Valentine’s Concert”, this evening as well as a drama on the Sunday evening.  The invitations did not mention that these were Christian events, nor did they contain the name of their particular church or group.  The only thing that could identify them was a telephone number.  We were able to ascertain from the number that they were from the “Potter’s House” Church.  We are appalled at such a level of deception that they would want to give people the appearance that these were secular events.  It simply confirms the nature of this group as being out, not to evangelise but, to proselytise and recruit members.

When Miguel preached he touched on the judgement that is to come and he quoted from Psalm 5 where it is written that God “hates all the workers of iniquity.”  The group of Christians that we met when we got there, upon hearing Miguel preach this, hastily packed up their things and left very quickly.  Apparently they were of the opinion that God did not judge anyone, nor did He condemn anyone.  This is typical of the Neo-Evangelical version of the Gospel that only emphasises Love.  The Bible is quite clear that God is angry with the wicked EVERY day (Psalm 7:11) and that those who do not believe Jesus continue under the wrath of God (John 3:36).  God does not just suggest that people repent, He COMMANDS that they do:

And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:  Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. (Acts 17:30-31)

The reason He commands it is because when Jesus returns He will Judge all men, both the living AND the dead:

I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. (2 Timothy 4:1-2)

Many Christians today want the world to have a good opinion of Jesus.  They want the world to love Jesus and see that Christians are nice people and that church is what will give real meaning to their lives.  For this reason they will neither say nor do anything that they feel will upset people or cause any offence.  For this reason they will not speak of the need for repentance, the wickedness of the human heart and will speak falsely to them by telling them that God will accept them just the way they are. This is a complete fabrication because God CANNOT accept people just as they are.  This is why Jesus went through all the pain and suffering of the Cross because none of us are acceptable to God just as we are.  In fact NOONE can even approach the Father except they come through Jesus:

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)
