When Christians Persecute Other Christians
The Colosseum in Rome
And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. (Matthew 24:10)
I have a Christian friend that lives in a small town in the South of the country. He and his family are Conservative Evangelicals whereas the churches in his town are Liberal Charismatics. We often speak via telephone sharing each other’s news and request prayer.
He, and his family, have faithfully stood for the truth and have resisted all the modern trends and innovations that have dragged the churches in England down the road of Apostasy; Ecumenism, Charismatic/Pentecostal errors (such as Toronto Blessing, Pensacola Outpouring, Lakeland Revival) including the move towards Mysticism and Contemplative Spirituality.
By standing firm they have been ostracized by the Christians in their town and now they stand alone unable to find like-minded believers with whom they can fellowship.
Their son was attending a local Christian school however they had to remove him from the school because he was being bullied and now they home school the boy.
They have neighbours who are members of a nearby church they used to be members of. These neighbours organise a home group that meets in order to fellowship, pray and study the Bible. Unfortunately the children of these neighbours are continually causing problems around their property, engaging in vandalism, lewd behaviour and being a nuisance which is directed towards my friend and his family. The Christian parents of these children refuse to discipline them, have spoken profanities towards my friend and even threatened my friend with physical assault when he has spoken with them concerning their children’s behaviour.
Added to this they are also being targeted by another neighbour (an unbeliever) who has been waking them up very early in the morning by deliberately revving up his vehicle in order to make things difficult for them. This has been going on for a long time and their faith has been sorely tested. My friend tells me that this has been extremely hard on their son and they have almost lost faith at times.
We keep them in our prayers and, I trust, you will too.
Perhaps this story may shock you, but these are the last days and we should expect to see more of this sort of thing happening as the day of the Lord draws near. The light and the darkness cannot coexist. They that are of the darkness cannot abide the light and will seek to extinguish the light. Because they are in the flesh they erroneously think that the ones who shine the light are the source of the light. For this they hate God’s children and will persecute them even to death!
These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you. (John 16:1-4)
Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against [their] parents, and shall cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all [men] for my name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. (Mark 13:12-13)
