On The Streets 27th July 2013
Miguel Preaching as Amélia distributes.
Today John, Amélia and Miguel hit the streets with the Gospel.
John preached from Matthew 15 concerning how certain religions place dietary requirements on their followers, whereas Christ explained that it is not what goes in the mouth that defiles because it simply passes through the body without touching the soul. What does defile are the things which come out of the heart.
It is from these that we need saving and it is from these things that Jesus Christ came into the world to redeem us from by atoning for us. Several people were sitting near by and some passers-by stopped to listen, including some people who were in nearby stores.
As Miguel preached John and Amélia distributed. A man stood nearby to listen. He approached John and, at first, was quite cynical. John patiently answered his objections. he became more open and began to speak with John about his disillusionment with the Catholic Faith that he had grown up with. John shared with him that the Catholic Church teaches that salvation is by grace and that grace comes via the sacraments whereas the Apostle Paul stated that salvation was by grace but that grace comes via Faith. He explained that faith was simply believing God.
John explained how that the Bible is the only book we can trust and place our faith in. Whereas the Catholic Church teaches that the Bible alone is not enough, that we need the Catechism of the church.
John spent over an hour with him after which he left.
Améllia was approached by a lady with whom she had spoken before. She said that she had been looking for Amélia as apparently she had seen a group of Portuguese speaking people preaching, however these people didn’t speak much English. There arw three groups in Manchester who have a significant number of Portuguese speaking members:
The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (A cynical cult started in Brazil by Edir Macedo that enriches itself by preying on people’s covetousness with promises of success and prosperity),
The Mana Church (A church started in South Africa by Jorge Tadeu. In many ways similar to the Universal Church but not as devious) and
Remar (Founded in Spain by Miguel Díez, a cult that mainly preys on drug addicts and alcoholics offering rehab, but not to reintroduce them into society. Remar operate a church called The Body of Christ Church in which members are convinced that it is the purest and most faithful of all churches. Members are made to feel that if they leave they risk being judged by God. This judgement can be Aids, Cancer or any number of fearful punishments).
Of course we may be mistaken about the people she spoke about with Amélia and they may be from some other group that we are not aware of.
As Miguel was preaching a group of African Christians paraded past singing , shouting and dancing. They handed our flyers inviting everyone to Worship with them. The flyer contained a prayer for people to repeat stating that upon repeating this prayer the person was “now born again”!
This group, The Lord´s Chosen Charismatic Revival Movement, is typical of most African ministries that are being set up in UK. These come boasting of “true and startling miracles,” such as the healing of “HIV, Cancer, Diabetes, Blindness, Madness, Bedwetting, Deaf and dumb, Stroke, Paralysis, Hernia, etc.” They often market “Miracle Products” such as “Healing Oils”, “Annointed Prayer Cloths” Etc. however the one thing they ALL have in common; they all have at the front of their churchand/or Ministry an “Annointed” “Apostle, Prophet, Bishop or Pastor” who they look to as one who, has “great calling of God upon his life” and who was “supernaturally guided by the Holy Spirit” to begin a ministry that would “truly transform the world and everyone who would come into contact with it”!
A number of these groups have not been without controversy and scandals in their own countries, such as the gross enmity between Bishop Edir Macedo and Pastor Valdemiro Santiago. Edir Macedo’s Television network Rede Record often runs features denouncing Santiago’s World Church of the Power of God. Both men are two of the richest Pastors in Brazil and both accuse one another of greed.
Even The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Movement’s (LCCRM) founder Lazarus Muoka has a similar long-standing rivalry with Pastor Nnamdi Ofoegbu, founder of Christ Chosen Generation Revival Ministry. Both have been going to court with one another over the issues between them!
Jude speaks well of such people:
Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error and perished in Korah’s rebellion. These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever.
