Learn to discern!

At first glance you may be forgiven for thinking that the above image shows a concert of one of today’s successful bands.  What many will be surprised to find out is that the image is of a Church Service.  This is church for the 21st century! This is the Emergent Church!

As I write I am fighting back the tears, my heart is grieved.  I am not grieved with all the young people who attend such meetings, many of them are new converts to the new Christianity and this is all they have ever known.  I am grieved, however, at the fact that many of these young people come from Christian backgrounds, whose parents belong to Christian churches.

Nearly 60 years ago A. W. Tozer wrote this:

For centuries the Church stood solidly against every form of worldly entertainment, recognizing it for what it was – a device for wasting time, a refuge from the disturbing voice of conscience, a scheme to  divert attention from moral accountability.  For this she got herself abused roundly by the sons of this world.  But of late she has become tired of the abuse and has given over the struggle.  She appears to have decided that if she cannot conquer the great god Entertainment she may as well join forces with him and make what use she can of his powers.  So today we have an astonishing spectacle of millions of dollars being poured into the in holy job of providing earthly entertainment for the so-called sons of heaven.  Religious entertainment is in many places rapidly crowding out the serious things of God.   Many churches these days have become little more than poor theaters where fifth-rate “producers” peddle their shoddy wares with the full approval of evangelical leaders who can even quote holy text in defense of their delinquency.  And hardly a man dares raise his voice against it.[1]

Christian parents;

And much more importantly:

Social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter do allow us to share the things we enjoy with others.  We can post video clips, news articles, wish people a happy birthday.  We can even chat with them online.  They also give us insight into what our children´s interests are and what they are sharing with everyone else.

It is truly amazing what is shared.  It is also shocking and disturbing.

We can check and see what movies they love.  For example many young girls simply adore the “Twilight Saga” movies.  “Twilight Saga” was a series of films about a love affair between a young girl and a Vampire.  What most people are not aware is that the films are based upon a series of books by Stephanie Meyer.  According to the author, her books are “about life, not death” and “love, not lust”.  She admits that the main influence of the books is drawn from her religious beliefs and that her writing is shaped by her values.  Stephanie Meyer is a Mormon. [2]

Do you Christian parents really want your children being influenced, directly or indirectly, by Mormonism?

Many young Christians promote singers and artists such as Rihanna, Marylin Manson, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, JayZ etc.  yet the lyrics of their songs (and the music videos that accompany these songs) are laced with sexual innuendo and occultism.

For example;

 “Umberella” by Rihanna .  What most people are unaware is that Rihanna admits to “channeling” in order to perform the song.  Channeling is a form of spiritualism where the medium allows themselves to be taken over by another entity, whether it be a spirit, an extraterrestrial, a muse or even an emotional vibe.[3]

JayZ is often pictured using occult symbols and imagery such as the triangle hand gesture and the initials OTO.  These both promote British occultist Aleister Crowley was known as both Frater Perdurabo (“Brother I shall endure to the end”) and The Great Beast 666! [4]

Ordo Templi Orientis (O.T.O.) (‘Order of the Temple of the East’ or ‘Order of Oriental Templars’) is the organisation that Crowley led. Under Crowley’s leadership the OTO  was reorganized around the Law of Thelema as its central religious principle. This Law is expressed as “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law”[5]  JayZ can be seen wearing this motto emblazoned on tops that he wears.[6]

JayZ is a collaborator with Rihanna, Kayne West and is married to singer Beyoncé who, has admitted that she has felt “something” coming into her when she becomes Sasha Fierce.[7]

Do you really want you children to be influenced by such people and such influences?

The fact that  many Christian youths use such foul language should concern every Christian parent (Pastors and Elders included)!  Swearing (or Profanity as the Bible describes it) is one more evidence of how young people are immersing themselves in worldliness.  The scriptures state that:

…..the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
(Galatians 5:22-23)

Not only will these things be manifested in our behaviour but they will also be manifested in our speech as well.  Whereas:

….the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, dolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.  (Galatians 5:19-21)

These works of the flesh will also be manifested in our speech as well as our actions.

We are warned quite severely about our words and our actions, and also about how we relate to the world around us:

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.  And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.  But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.  Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.  For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.  Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.  for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.  Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. (Ephesians 5:1-11)

Not only should there be no place in the life of the believer for any of these things but there is no place in the Kingdom of God for those that practice such things.

Discipline and Holiness should be the mark of every believer.  Parents (first and foremost) and every Pastor and Elder of the church have the responsibility to impress upon the minds of young believers the importance of living holy lives:

But that is not the way you learned Christ!– assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.  Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.  Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.  And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.  (Ephesians 4:20-30)

Parents, does it not concern you they way that your children dress?  Young Christian girls too often dress in an immodest way, in a way that only draws attention to their physical attributes, sensually?

women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness–with good works.
(1 Timothy 2:9-10)

Too often Christian girls justify their immodest attire by pointing out that the Pastor´s daughter dresses this way!

Woe to you Pastors who do not reign in your children and set the example as parents to your flocks!

Woe to you parents who leave your children to their own devices without being examples to them.

Rome, in its attempt to Christianize the pagans only succeeded in paganizing its church!

Churches today, in their attempts to make the world become Christian, are only succeeding in making themselves worldy.

For this there will be a heavy price to pay:

For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind. (Hosea 8:7)
