On The Streets 12th January 2013
John preached from Psalm 8 where it speaks of God’s concern for man who is but a speck of dust in God’s wider creation. He declared how that men have lived under assumptions about the nature of things and God Himself. It is these assumptions that have caused God to hand man over to those things which God deplores and which have caused men to reject the truth for a lie and worship the creation over the one who created all things.
A young Chinese man approached John to ask him what it was he was saying. John explained simply that mankind has rejected his creator and needs to come back to Him. However of his own volition and by virtue of what he perceives as his own inherant goodness he cannot. Thus God sent His own Son, Jesus Christ, to bare God’s punishment for sin and we must accept God’s gift to man, the salvation that Jesus has won for us through His death on the cross.
A little later on a young woman, who was with her son, approached John to enquire as to who we were and what did we believe. John explained that we Home Church (that is, we believe that the word translated “church” in the English Bible does not mean a building made by people’s hands out of bricks and/or stone but it is the assembley of the believers wherever and whoever they may be). John explained that we found the churches in England have largely apostacised from the truth of the Scriptures in favour of man-made traditions and supposed direct revelations from God Himself that directly contradict the Bible. She told John that she agreed as she had become a believer whist living abroad and was grieved at the situation she found the churches in when she moved here.
John had been preaching from Romans Chapter 1 concerning those who had changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. (v28) The compromises and false teachings have turned the truth of God into a lie. She spoke of being accused of being a “legalist” because she upheld scriptural truths and that for many the Bible was simply a book which they used to “copy and paste” what truth they wanted to hear.
In spite of the cold she engaged with John for quite a while. Before she left John gave her our contact details so we pray that she will remain faithful to God’s Word of truth as written in the Bible.
Our old friends Patrick and James Battel (www.excatholicsforchrist.org) approached Amélia as John was preaching and gave us a large quantity of gospel leaflets in answer to prayer as we have been running low. Praise God for His provision.
In spite of the cold John & Amélia were able to preach and distribute numerous tracts to the many passers-by.
It is our fervent prayer that the seed will find its way into good soil that will, in due time, bare fruit for God!
