end of world 21 decemberWell December 21st came and went.  Yet we’re still here!  So many people had been warning us of the end of the world and got it all wrong!

We were warned of the possible destruction of Earth through a collision with the Asteroid Apophis as it came close to the Earth.  We were warned of the possible destructive effect of a gigantic Solar Flare.  Apparently it was foretold in the Bible–Bible Codes that is.  Then there was that mysterious planet Nibiru which would hit the Earth.  Oh yes, not forgetting the Mayan Calendar, although we might have well have done.

People have been wrongly predicting the end of the world for centuries.

In 1719 Jacob Bernoulli predicted that a comet seen in 1680 would return and collide with the Earth. (Said comet hasn’t been seen since.)

William Branham in his book The Seven Church Ages, predicted that the end would occur in 1977 beginning with destruction of the U.S., termination of all governments into a world government and the second coming of Christ.

In his article 1994? Harold Camping predicted that the end would be in 1994.  He later on predicted that the end would come in 2011 with a world-wide publicity campaign!

David Flynn has revised Isaac Newton’s Bible Codex Deciphered and now predicts the end will come in 2013!

More famously the Jehovah’s Witness Organisation (JW’s) has given various dates for, as they put it, the end of this present era and the establishment of Christ’s Kingdom on Earth; including 1914, 1918, 1936 and 1975.  Each time these predictions have failed.

Such unfulfilled predictions have only caused the world to mock, as the scripture says,

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking
after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as [they were] from the beginning of the creation.  (2Peter 3:3-4)

These prognosticators have, in their pride and vanity, assumed that they were more knowledgeable than Jesus Christ Himself:

But of that day and [that] hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in
heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. (Mark 13:32)

The New Testament scriptures do speak of the end of the age, the second coming of Christ and the coming of Armageddon, however the Lord did give certain signs that would serve as an indication as to the proximity of the end which are recorded in Matthew’s account of the Gospel chapter 24, but NOT the actual date.  Signs such as wars and rumours of war, earthquakes in different places, famines, pestilences amongst others.

Later, in the process of time, the Holy Spirit would reveal through the Apostle Paul a further two signs that MUST occur first BEFORE His coming;

Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and [by]
our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, AND that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.  (2Thessalonians 2:1-4)

First there must come a FALLING AWAY which means an APOSTACY, or falling away from the truth.  In other epistles both Paul and Peter would explain the nature of this apostacy;

For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. (Acts 20-29)

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.  (2Peter 2:1-2)

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart
from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, [and commanding] to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
(1Timothy 4:1-3)

The nature pf this apostacy would be a large scale falling away from the truth from within the churches, people being tossed about like feathers being blown this way and that way by every wind of teaching.

Secondly we are to see the revealing of a man described as the son of perdition.  The only other person to be described in this way was Judas Iscariot;

While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou
gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.  (John 17:12)

He  was described in such a way because he was possessed of Satan himself!

Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.  (Luke 22:3)

Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?
(John 6:70)

Thus we see that this man will be possessed of Lucifer, he will set himself up in the temple of God demanding to be worshipped as god (much like the Caesers of Rome).  This man comes AFTER the great apostacy.  As we have yet to witness the arrival of this man (believed to be the AntiChrist spoken of by the Apostle John in his epistles and the Revelation) we must also expect there to be a temple of God in Jerusalem where the Jews will revive the old Levitical sacrifices.

The Prophet Daniel also speaks of him;

And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of
the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make [it] desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
(Daniel 9:27)

In order to set himself up in the temple he must first stop the Jews from performing their sacrifices and oblations and set up the Abomination of Desolation;

And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily [sacrifice], and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate. (Daniel 11:31)

When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
(Matthew 24:15)

But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains: (Mark 13:14)

These are things that must occur BEFORE Christ comes to establish His Kingdom on Earth.  Until then we can only look forward to his coming as a future event.  Until these things are yet to happen we cannot know with any certainty the actual date.
