ON THE STREET, Sat. 13th Oct. 2012

John & Amélia were out in Manchester today to deliver the Gospel to passers-by.

As they were about to begin they were approached by old friends Patrick and James Battel who kindly gave them some leaflets that contain James’s story of how he went from being a Jazz singer with a Big Band to becoming a Bible believing Christian.

They kindly joined us in reaching out to the lost with the Gospel.

John read from James’s Epistle chapter 4 which goes into detail about what is at the heart of all the problems in this world.  John spoke of how much we can try to cover up and cover over our lives to make us appear “good” people by either reforming our lives, adhering to a religious belief or wearing a mask to hide what we know about ourselves that others are not aware.

John explained how that no amount of religion can redeem us from the basic problem we have; separation from God and living lives in rebellion to him.  It is God who separates Himself from us because of our sins.  God cannot accept us as we are which is why He sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world to die on the Cross so that if we believe Him God will forgive us, makes us new creatures and adopt us as His children.

No religion can bring us to God, and this includes Christianity!  Jesus Christ stated,

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
(John 14:6)

And Apostle Peter declared:

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
(Acts 4:12)

Only by believing Jesus Christ can we be reconciled with God and, more importantly, God with us!

As John was preaching a young man began to hassle him with some question over Cathedrals.  He would not allow John to preach and his hassling got to the point of harassment!  Thankfully James stepped in to help and took the young man aside to speak with him. James spent quite a while with him and eventually he left James and continued on his way still objecting to the Gospel.

Today few people actually stopped to engage with them although many did take copies of the leaflets.  We pray that any seed that was sown today the Holy Spirit will work on to open people’s eyes to see, open their ears to hear and open their hearts to receive the truth of this glorious Gospel of God!
