OPEN LETTER TO NORWICH CITY COUNCIL

Norwich City Council
City Hall
Norwich
NR2 1NH

To Whom it May Concern,

My attention has been drawn to the recent action taken by the Norwich City Council to prohibit them from using Council premises for any of their meeting as the council has upheld a single complaint from a member of the public as to the nature of one of Rev. Clifford’s articles concerning Islam.

Norwich City Council have deemed the article to be motivated by “hatred and intolerance,” however no explanation as to why the Council believes the article to be so.  It has been reported that the Norfolk Constabulary has stated that the offending leaflet does NOT contravene any legislation.

It appears to me that Norfolk City Council has over reacted concerning this particular church.

I would also like to remind Norfolk City Council that the main tenet of the Christian Faith is that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (His birth being generally celebrated on 25th December), and at Easter most churches commemorate his atoning death for the sins of the world (plus His resurrection).  I have seen innumerable articles published by Islamic sources denouncing these doctrines of the Christian faith also suggesting that the Holy Bible is a “Corrupt” book.  I would suggest that these articles are also motivated by hatred and intolerance of Christianity!  Will the council also take steps to ban Muslim groups from using council premises because they reject Christianity as being evil?

People have the right to Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Expression in this country, even if what is being said, or expressed, causes offense to some people.

Has Norwich City Council now become the arbiter of Theological Debate in Norfolk?

These Freedoms are the bedrock of British Democracy.

Will Norwich City Council prohibit the Bible also as certain of its passages are very strong when it comes to issues facing Society:

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10 New King James Version Pub 1979, Thomas Nelson publishers)

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10 New International Version Pub 1978, Hodder and Stoughton publishers)

Or do you not know that the unrighteous  will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” (English Standard Version Pub 2001, Crossway Bibles Publisher)

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.” (New American Standard Bible pub 1963, Lockman Foundation Publisher)

These are some of the controversial portions of the New Testament Scriptures that some people take offense at.  Will Norfolk City Council take steps to ban the Bible because its content is likely to offend some people!

yours faithfully
